UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga's student inauguration procession this year was not as usual. Due to the pandemic, for the first time, the inauguration of 6.875 new students was carried out online.

Airlangga University Chancellor Prof Moh Nasih inaugurated the new undergraduate and diploma level students on Tuesday (1/9/2020). They are new students for the 2020/2021 school year.

A total of 6.875 new students who were inaugurated in Batch 1 came from various regions in Indonesia. Among the furthest are from Banda Aceh, Tarakan, Ternate, Jayapura, Sitaro Islands, and Belu.

UNAIR Chancellor said that UNAIR's new student admission capacity for 2020 is 7.225. All of these capacities will be fully filled through Batch 2.

"There are 1.126 students who are holders of the Indonesian Smart-Kuliah Card (KIP-K)," said the Chancellor.

In 2020, UNAIR KIP-K quota reaches 1.400 students. The largest KIP-K admissions this year came from the Mandiri pathway, which reached more than 500 students.

Among the students who were inaugurated, Gusti Bazilia Callysta Dzakwan became the youngest new student at the age of 15 years. The girl who was born on January 5, 2005 was accepted into the English Literature study program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB).

For the D3 Nursing study program in Gresik and Lamongan, 99 percent are KIP-K holders. The Chancellor said that this was part of an effort to give the best students the opportunity to study at UNAIR.

Meanwhile, for students who have not re-registered due to financial reasons, UNAIR provides an opportunity to extend the re-registration.

“We hope parents and students who have any difficulties to communicate with us. We will facilitate it later,” said the Chancellor.

At the inauguration of the new students, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto was present online to give a speech. Airlangga Hartarto gave a message to new students to start living independently.

On that occasion, Airlagga Hartarto gave a message for new students to take part in extracurricular activities because these activities will hone their soft skills.

“For younger students, the early days of college are a transitional period. Lecture conditions will be much different from when in high school. So you have to be independent," he said.

Airlangga Hartarto also gave a message and encouragement because the current struggle is more difficult because we are experiencing a pandemic. The Corona virus, for which there is no vaccine, forces us to do online recovery activities. (*)
