The UNAIR Accounting Department again held a series of Guest Lecture Series 2022 events starting on Wednesday 16 February 2022. Series 1 took a topic, namely "Research Topics in Accounting Standards for Not-for-profit Organizations" which was presented by Prof. David Gilchrist from The University of Western Australia and moderated by Amalia Rizki who is a UNAIR Accounting Lecturer. The event took place from 10.00 – 11.30 WIB and was attended by approximately 170 participants from students, academics and practitioners.
In this event, Prof. David Gilchrist reviews, among others, issues in not for profit (NFP) reporting, research topics that can be researched related to NFPs and several global projects researching in this area. There are quite a number of research topics that can be done, such as asset valuation on heritage assets, controlled versus administered assets, and performance reporting. However, there are also many challenges faced by researchers such as lack of data availability, lack of capacity to deal directly with users, and weak regulatory priorities. Prof. David Gilchrist also said that the topic of NFP is still rarely discussed at the university level, and hopes that in the future interest in this topic and research in this area will grow.
The event went smoothly and many questions were asked to the presenters to deepen their understanding of the main understanding of NFP reporting and the solutions offered to face the challenges of researchers in this area of NFP. This event can be watched again on the channel Accounting Department YouTube.
