UNAIR Accounting Department again held an online Guest Lecture Series on Tuesday 22 March 2022 with the topic “The Transformation to Data Analytics, RPA and Beyond”. This time the Guest Lecture presented Dr. Angela Liew from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and moderated by Anak Agung Gde Satia Utama. The event took place from 10.00 – 12.00 WIB and was attended by approximately 170 participants from students, academics and practitioners.

The material begins with an explanation of how the evolution of the use of Audit IT Tools in the Big Four Audit Firms. Microsoft excel is a familiar tool used by auditors, but along with the increase in Big Data, there are quite a number of things that cannot be facilitated by excel so that the Big Four Audit Firms develop their own version of smart audit tools. The presentation which lasted approximately 90 minutes was followed by an interesting discussion session from the participants. The most asked issue is how the complexity of the audit process in the future and the accounting profession in the future are threatened with extinction by the presence of digitalization such as robotic automation.
