The 7th series of the 2022 Guest Lecture Series took place on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 with the topic "Qualitative Approach to Analysing Interview Data and Online Textual Data" presented by Dr. Angela Liew from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and moderated by AA Gde Satia Utama, an Accounting Lecturer at Airlangga University. Guest Lecture held online via Zoom and attended by approximately 200 participants.
One of the most widely understood myths when discussing qualitative research is that writing is more about writing than numbers. But what needs to be understood is not only from the writing, but the meaning behind the word. Research questions conducted in qualitative research mostly discuss "how" and "why" while in quantitative research they tend to ask "what" and "how much". There are 4 quadrants of data sources in qualitative and quantitative research which are discussed by Dr. Angela Liew. Some strategies in qualitative research include using case studies, where researchers are considered as visitors, researchers are not active in the field but passively see what is going on. The second strategy is action researcher (action researcher) who are directly in the field, researchers will change what they find and determine how in the end. The next strategy is grounded theory is when researchers have not determined a theory, they adjust to the data that occurs and come up with a new theory. This theory is not widely used because currently many theories are available.
The Guest Lecture which lasted for 100 minutes was interesting, where the participants were very enthusiastic in asking questions. This event can be watched again on the channel Accounting Department YouTube.
